Lack of iPad 5 and mini 2 unveil at WWDC no surprise

Just last week there were some people suggesting that Apple could unveil the iPad 5 or even the iPad mini 2 during WWDC, and even before the event there had been a report that a new case had appeared, and so was thought to be further proof of these tablets being seen yesterday.

However, it came as no surprise to us that the iPad 5 and mini 2 unveil at WWDC did not happen, but I bet there are some of you still disappointed by this? Let’s face it; WWDC is always about iOS and Mac OS X now, and with some minor updates to a few products. When it comes to the iPhone and iPad devices, these will always have their very own event, as these are major releases, and the bread and butter for Apple.

We don’t expect to see the iPad 5 or iPad mini 2 for several more months yet, because there is not even a sign that parts have gone into production. Once we get news that these new parts have entered production then we should expect to see the final product around three months later.

Personally, I feel as though Apple will not unveil their new tablets until October, as they did last year with the current models. They are not likely to announce the iPad 5 and mini 2 in the same month as the next iPhone, which should be late September.

It makes perfect sense to release the iPad 5 and mini 2 in October, as this way it will come with iOS 7 pre-installed. This means the new tablets will be designed around the new mobile OS, and not have to be updated, like you’ll have to with current models.

If this is the case, then we expect to see even greater performance and battery life, although the new hardware will also play a big part in this. Let’s just hope that Apple decide to ditch the old CPU in the current iPad mini, and give the sequel a far better processor.
