Kinect Joy Ride Review: No Gran Turismo Or Forza

Earlier today we reported on a review for Kinect Dance Central, so we thought we would follow that up with Joy Ride for use with the motion sensor on the Xbox 360. The first thing you have to remember is how little control you have of the vehicle — something that is new to racing car games. OK, so we know that this game is no Gran Turismo or Forza, but that’s not what this game is all about.

Stephen Totilo from Kotaku has written an extensive review along with video footage of the game in action. The game will take some getting used to, as you just hold your hands in front of you, as if you are holding an invisible wheel, and just steer when you want to go round a corner.

You have to remember that Joyride is the first racing game for Kinect, so there is a lot more to come from this kind of game. Steering the car will take some time to get used to, but it is the lack of accelerating and breaking that will put people off. It’s all very well having a game for fun, but there needs to be an element of skill as well.

If you are planning a party then Joyride needs to be in your collection, but it will not be long before Dance Central is loaded up. Have you played Joyride — what did you think?
