We have some great news for those planning to pick up Killer Instinct as their first launch purchase on Xbox One. We recently had the confirmation of a brand new fighter debuting in the series called Sadira, but now we have some fresh news with relation to how the developers plan to update the game after launch.
The scope of Killer Instinct is potentially huge, especially when talking about DLC and the likelihood of the entire SNES roster returning at some stage. At the moment, there are only six players that will come with the game, although there are already plans to add another two within four months of the game launching.
With the fighting mechanics so important in determining whether the game becomes a success with fans, we can obviously expect developers Double Helix Games to make certain balance changes depending on how fans react with feedback after release.
What we can tell you now, is that certain updates in the game can happen seamlessly and won’t require a long install time upon each update. That is because it has just been confirmed that the game’s character data will all be stored on Microsoft’s Xbox One cloud, meaning that Double Helix Games can just go into the cloud when they please and make quick changes as they see fit.
We understand that players ‘may not even notice’ that these changes have been made, which can obviously be deemed as a good or bad thing. It’s good if the developers are able to fix up bugs and glitches in this way, but they will also need to be careful of not tweaking a character too much without letting players know what is happening.
We are very excited about the idea of cloud updates though, as it could turn out to be a big success on Xbox One and will obviously lead into other developers building their games this way if it works for Killer Instinct.
