July 4th sales from Steam – Valve, THQ, Bethesda and more

Now is a good time to be a PC gamer as Valve’s annual July 4th video game sales are once again approaching, giving you the chance to make considerable savings on the latest releases, add-on content and more.

This year is arguably the biggest July 4th sale that Valve are putting on, as there are some amazing deals to be had on new content, as well as crazy discounts on some classic games.

For example, if you’re looking for the perfect preparation before Skyrim comes out, you can pick up the excellent Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, G.O.T.Y edition for just $6.60, i.e pocket money. If that doesn’t interest you, you can pick up Back to the Future with a 50% discount, Borderlands G.O.T.Y for $7.50 and Operation Flashpoint Red River with a 35% discount.

Those deals mentioned above are for today only, but the sale overall will run from now until July 10th with different deals available each day. We’d say that Oblivion is probably the best deal for today, but a strong contender to that is the not-so-old Metal of Honor reboot game – remember that? If you haven’t played it yet, it’s available from Steam with a crazy 66% discount, meaning that you can buy it right now for just $20.39.

You can check out their full lineup of today’s deals on the Steam store here. Towards the bottom of the page, you can see what games people are buying the most. As we predicted, Oblivion is right up there towards the top, but the biggest game sold as part of the sale so far is The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings which is available for just $33.49. The Valve complete collection is another amazing deal to be had for just $49.99. Originally priced at $215, it contains all their classics such as CounterStrike, Half Life 1& 2 and their add-on episodes, both Left4Dead titles and much more. That alone is worth investing in today if you have $50 to spare.

If you prefer to scroll through discounts via publisher, you’ll see that Valve has added a publisher catalogue page, letting you view sales of games from just one specifc publisher. All the big names are there, and discounts can be had on many big names such as Resident Evil 5, map packs for Black Ops, Bioshock 2, Batman Arkham Asylum and much more.

Have you bought any games yet as part of the July 4th Steam sale? We’re struggling to contain our excitement here with all these savings to be made. We can’t wait to see what games are on sale tomorrow – let us know what you’ve bought so far.
