Japan gets cool new Ice White Nintendo 3DS

If there’s one thing past experiences should have taught you by now, it’s that Japan get all the cool stuff first. That certainly seems to be the case once more as Nintendo has just announced a shiny new ‘ice white’ 3DS being launched in their country first.

While there is no word of an US or Europe launch for the newly colored handset, in the past when Japan has seen a new device launched they have eventually made it over to the western way. It was only last month that Europe and the UK received the red Nintendo 3DS which had, for quite a while, previously only been available in Japan exclusively. According to reports it was a way of commemorating over one million 3DS units being sold across the continent.

We are still however waiting for the ‘misty pink’ 3DS which again launched exclusively in Japan last month. It was announced at the Nintendo press conference during the Tokyo Game Show as the company’s way of tackling the gender issues they had been experiencing when it came to 3DS units being sold. It was revealed that more men take an interest in the device than women and Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, wanted to change that.

As with the other color changes, the ice white model has not received any spec upgrades, it has simply undergone a cosmetic transformation with a glossy white finish, keeping the black trim around the top screen. According to CVG, those in Japan that are interested in getting one will have to part with 15,000 yen, which is the equivalent of £127. This is the coolest color yet and we will be hoping it hits the western market soon.

What do you think of the ice white 3DS?
