iTunes download not working is something you can expect to see a little later today, and will join the iOS 8 OTA issues, which are also inevitable. This is something that many of us have experienced in the past, and so why would this year be any different, as we doubt Apple has upgraded its servers to the point where it can handle the huge bottleneck of users installing iOS 8 at once.
iTunes an alternative to downloading and installing iOS 8 — Most of us tend to download and install the latest version of iOS OTA, and today will be no different, but when you see the message “an error occurred downloading iOS 8,” the workaround would be to go via iTunes instead.
In many cases downloading iOS 8 within iTunes will stop the error occurring, however, it still has to go through the same servers, and so it is luck of the draw that you don’t come across the same issue again.
However, don’t think for one moment that all will be fine today, as iTunes will also throw up a few errors; take last year, some of our readers reported error codes 4014 and 4013, and if these pop up again today, then it will stop you from upgrading to iOS 8.
The best thing you can do is be patient, so you can either try to download iOS 8 in an hour’s time, or you could bide your time and wait a few hours for things to calm down in the hope that Apple servers are not been bombarded as much.
