iPod touch 6G needed for parents

With another Apple event planned in October we took a look at a possible iPod touch 6th generation being announced recently, and also the chances of Apple getting rid of the device completely. It is clear that the majority of people think there is a need for an iPod touch 6G, and recently some of Product Reviews readers claim the device is important for parents.

Over the last few years you would have noticed the iPod touch becoming more like an iPhone, but lacking the key cellular abilities although video calls are still possible through FaceTime. This feature alone gives some people an option to buy the portable media player over an iPhone, and under some circumstances the device is seen as a stepping-stone to a smartphone.

This has been evident from a number of comments we have received and even an email in one occasion. “There are lots of parents that like to slowly ease their children into cellphones. The iPod is an option for this, and one reason why there needs to be an iPod touch 6G release either in 2013 or 2014”, said one Product Reviews reader. They continued, “Children can still use Wi-Fi, send texts, play games, use email and more all from a one-off payment much less than an iPhone”.

Other people agree with this line of thought, but also recognize the merging of iPod and iPhone. “The iPod touch 6G would most likely be even more like the iPhone 5S with specs like a fingerprint reader, and if the iPod touch is discontinued then Apple need to launch a much cheaper iPhone without cell plans”.

In our opinion, the iPod touch 6G will see a release date at the end of 2014 thanks to a new 2 year launch plan. You can see this pattern over the last few years, but when it finally arrives would you really want it and if so what specs should they include? You can see a few features people want in an earlier article about the 6th-gen device.
