We reported earlier that the latest iPhone was being rolled out to more countries around the world, which is a device that has sold like hot cakes so far. Now we can tell you about iPhone jealously as Android remains king in the UK regarding sales.
A study has found that the Android platform is outselling Apple’s iPhone two to one in the UK, and according to an article on Cnet is also leaving BlackBerry in its wake regarding smartphone sales. Almost half of the smartphones sold in the country were Android devices at 49.9 percent, while the iPhone in comparison is sitting at 18.5 percent.
The BlackBerry platform comes in at 22.5 percent, but this is where it gets interesting as the study was conducted during the twelve weeks leading up to October 2nd. This is before the iPhone 4S was released to the market, so these figures could change dramatically if looked at now.
This study also shows that a huge 43.8 percent of the UK population now have a smartphone in their possession, and there has been a big rise in data usage. The iPhone 4S would probably make a big difference to the figures now, as many consumers would have stopped buying iPhone’s in readiness for the new model.
It also has to be remembered is that Apple are now offering cheaper iPhone models in its range, which is an option the Android platform has always enjoyed. One of the biggest reasons that we have seen a rapid growth in smartphone ownership is the choice of more affordable handsets.
