The amount of reports stating an iPhone 6 release date is almost upon us is shocking to say the least, and this goes against almost every leak and inside rumor from some very credible sources. In fact, the last couple of months and especially in recent days have been filled with an iPhone 5S name paired with a 5C model.
Just about every credible source states iPhone 5S will launch at an event on September 10. We are yet to see a single solid source claiming the iPhone 6 will be announced during the Apple keynote this month, so we wanted to clear up some confusion seen in emails and comments to Product Reviews.
One of our readers commented, “I keep seeing blogs like IBTimes reporting Apple’s iPhone 6 release date has been confirmed by an AT&T and Verizon vacation block. I thought the next models were going to be an iPhone 5S and 5C”. We have seen a lot of name confusion like this thanks to blogs making up their own rumors and not looking at the signals and patterns appearing for months now.
It is true that Verizon Wireless joined AT&T in a block on holidays for retail employees, although this news almost certainly hints at the release date for the next iPhone being between September 18th and 22nd.
You can see our early article that looked at the vacation blockage and we placed our bet on a Friday for the iPhone 5S and 5C release date. This would make it September 20th, and this is in-line with Apple’s favored day for a launch to retailers.
iPhone 6 won’t release this year — with the above news in-mind and while the carriers or retailers don’t hint at a name for the next Apple phone, it won’t be called iPhone 6 in our opinion.
So, if you see these articles claiming the iPhone 6 is coming this month then just ignore them, as they are clearly misunderstanding just about every rumor that arrived for the past few months.
Will you skip the iPhone 5S if it stays pretty much the same externally? The iPhone 6 when it finally releases will change a lot more than what the iPhone 5S is expected to do. Thanks to the overall design and size looking to stay the same, we would expect a large number of iPhone 5 owners and maybe even 4S owners to skip the iPhone 5S.
There has been rumors that Apple will jump on the phablet craze at some point and an iPhone 6 in 2014 would be a good time to do this, although we bet a few of our readers would have wanted different sized iPhones on offer this year. What would be your ideal size for a new iPhone?
You can see a sneak peak of a claimed iPhone 5S in the video below this article, which reveals a new gold iPhone 5S vs. the iPhone 5. It also reveals a potential larger battery for better life and faster chip.
We have even seen accessory makers launching iPhone 5C cases and offering them for pre-order already with stock arriving in the next few days. This is a risk, but it also shows how sure most people are over the lack of an iPhone 6 release in 2013.
Leave a comment below with your thoughts on the blogs that keep pushing the idea of an iPhone 6 coming soon, and also let us know if you will likely purchase the new phone later this month.
Even if we do see a more radical iPhone 6 launch next year, it is a shame that the phone will miss out on the benefits seen with graphene thanks to a number of problems getting this material on consumer electronics anytime soon.
