The absence of an iPhone 5S pre-order has caused a few problems for people selling an iPhone 5, 4S or other smartphone. Most trade-in services keep a price for so many days, in the case of O2 in the UK it’s 2 weeks, and this is not good if you set a trade-in price right after the event.
You cannot pre-order the iPhone 5S, although you could place an order for the 5C model last week. This means if you are going to purchase the iPhone 5S on September 20th, then you will be cutting it close to get the original locked price with services such as O2 Recycle.
One Product Reviews reader stated, “I locked the price for an iPhone 5 and 4S right after Apple’s event. This is held for 2 weeks with O2 in the UK and I have the packet to send the phones back in. The problem is I cannot pre-order my iPhone 5S, so I hope I can pick-up two handsets on the release date or it means ordering online with Apple and waiting until they arrive as I cannot be without a phone”.
In this example, the option of ordering online would mean the trade-in time will lapse and they won’t get the price promised for trading in their iPhone 5 and 4S.
We are sure thousands of people will be in the same position considering they would have applied to trade-in after finding out the facts about Apple’s new iPhone models. The difference between 2013 and 2012 is simple, and this is due to the fact that you could pre-order the new flagship iPhone last year. The iPhone 5S is not up for pre-order in 2013, and instead it is only the 5C model that you can get on the release date after ordering online before this time.
Did you apply for a phone trade-in deal right after Apple’s event? If so, are you waiting to pick-up an iPhone 5S and worry you will lose the trade-in price prevouisly set thanks to no pre-order option to get the device on day one?
It is unclear why Apple didn’t offer a pre-order for both iPhone 5S and 5C, although we have heard a few rumors claiming production problems to do with the fingerprint reader will mean stock is low this year.
