There has been plenty of lists stating features wanted with the new iPhone model expected this year, although a new technology introduced last year by Apple called Thunderbolt could provide a faster data transfer speed between a computer and the new iPhone 5. Not many wishlists have included this feature, and that could be for good reason.
The chip might be too big for current hardware, although the iPhone 5 could include newer technology to both shrink and provide Thunderbolt-type tech inside the 6th generation device. This would not be the only technical hurdle for Apple to overcome, and while 10Gbps of data transfer can beat the slow Wi-Fi and cable connections currently available — is this feature something the user really cares about?
Several bloggers have raised the issue of data transfer speed between phone and computer before, and one article recently published looks at this problem again, but goes one step further by calling Thunderbolt for iPhone 5 a “game changer“. This seems a little strong for us and initial feedback from Apple fans shows the same feelings, which includes statements like “really not necessary“, and “10Gbps seems a bit excessive, especially considering USB 3.0 can deliver enough for now“.
