iPhone 5 to change O2 UK trade-in price

Each year just before a new generation of iPhone launches you can be sure to see a massive increase in trade-ins, and even though Apple hasn’t confirmed the rumored iPhone 5 event for next month, we’re already hearing about a record number of iPhone 4/4S trade-in inquiries. On O2’s official trade-in website they issue a warning to “hurry” if you want to exchange your device for money, which means it’s very likely the price could drop when the iPhone 5 release date arrives.

If you are thinking about upgrading to the iPhone 5 and live in the UK, then you’d be happy to know O2 Recycle are offering £295 for the 4S model with 32GB of storage. If you agree to the exchange O2 will send you a package for your device, and it won’t cost you anything to send it to O2.

O2 UK guarantees the stated price and they won’t reduce the quote if you have chips, scratches, or other normal wear and tear. If the iPhone 5 event goes ahead on September 12 then the 14 days trade-in price freeze will come in handy, which only counts when you agree to trade-in.

The problem right now is that Apple hasn’t confirmed the iPhone 5 event, or even sent out invites, so it seems like you’d need to wait until invitations are sent out at least. It’s also not known if the UK will join the U.S. with the initial launch country line-up, although Apple’s track record shows that the UK will almost certainly see a release date right away.

If you will trade-in your current smartphone before getting an iPhone 5, when will you ask O2 to send an envelope for a trade-in? It is worth pointing out that you are not committed to trade your iPhone in with O2 after getting a quote, although the price will only hold for 2 weeks.

We’ve also heard about some United States based companies that are locking trade-in prices, and this includes Gazelle locking the prices for the rest of this month, which in our opinion is not enough considering we won’t know anything official for a couple of weeks yet. You can also read about the 4S topping trade-in offers earlier this month.
