iPhone 5 to be smaller and thinner so say’s Orange CEO

We can expect at this time of year to get many rumors regarding the next iPhone. Only yesterday we had reports that the next device will have a curved design much like the Nexus S. Then we had news that the iPhone 5 may be delayed until next year because of a white 64GB iPhone 4. Now today we have a report that the iPhone 5 is to be smaller and thinner so say’s Orange CEO Stephane Richard.

The CEO of France Telecom which owns Orange has more users with the iPhone besides AT&T, with the device in 15 different countries. He was recently interviewed by All Things D, and was praising Apple by saying “Everybody should be grateful to them to have put such a product in our market.”

He does have some reservations though on how much power it has with the way applications are allowed onto the App Store. He also confirmed the news that Apple and networks are looking to have smaller SIM cards, and the idea of having a device with no SIM card was thought about.

But the carriers convinced Apple this was a bad idea due to security and authentication issues. Richard then said that the next iPhone would be smaller and thinner, and that Apple wanted more space with the new standardized SIM card the company is hoping to achieve. The interview covers a variety of companies and issues including the tablet market.

If Apple is trying to free up more space inside their smartphones, what other new features can we expect to see?
