WWDC 2011 Event officially announced

The release date for the iPhone 5 draws closer after Apple officially announced the dates for the 2011 WWDC event. This year’s event will take place in San Francisco, at the Moscone West conference center beginning on June 6 through to June 10.

Lex Friedman from Macworld is reporting in an article that Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president, has said in a statement that Apple is “going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS.” This must mean news of Mac OS X Lion and iOS 5.

There will also be over 100 technical sessions which will be presented by Apple engineers, with over 1000 in attendance. Unlike last year the Apple Design Awards will be taking place, and will have a category for Mac apps. But to be eligible applications have to be available on the Mac App Store by May 23.

But what most people will be waiting to hear about will be the iPhone 5 or whatever it will be called, as well as iOS 5. We can expect to get drip fed bits of news and speculation about both items between now and June. What feature will you be looking to hear about most come June 6?
