iPhone 5 update, Apple’s radical new design initiative

Just in case you thought the new iPhone hardware rumor mill was slowing down, we have some fresh information for you now as it has been rumored that Apple will soon be introducing a low price iPhone, separate from their upcoming fifth generation release.

You may be thinking that this is just another iPhone rumor and it’s starting to get a bit tedious by now, but we couldn’t overlook this latest find that we have discovered. According to an article published by BGR, Apple will be launching an discounted iPhone device this year which will apparently be available for around $350.

Before you get your hopes up that this is the iPhone 5 that we’re talking about, it isn’t. Instead this device may end up being the iPhone 3GS as Apple look to shift as many units as they can before the inevitable iPhone 5 release. A discounted iPhone at $350 would certainly be an attractive proposition though as Apple currently command $649 for an unlocked iPhone 4 for comparison purposes. It’s important to note that the article also suggests that the $350 price point will be for a handset without a contract, so you’ll still need to come up extra funds for your calling plan.

So that’s all good and well that a new discounted iPhone may be on the way, but what about the iPhone 5? Well, the same article reveals that the fifth generation iPhone, be it the iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S is still firmly on the way, but rather than a September release as previously speculated by pretty much everyone, we’re now hearing that Apple will release this device late Summer, i.e towards the end of August.

Perhaps even more interesting for Apple fans, is that the new device will feature a ‘radical design change‘, which again is contrary to previous rumors which suggested that Apple’s next iPhone will retain the same form factor as the iPhone 4, just adding a few hardware upgrades such as a dual-core A5 processor, an 8 megapixel camera and possibly a 4-inch edge-to-edge ‘gorilla glass’ display screen.

To sum up these two juicy reveals for you, it could mean that fans will be treated to not one new iPhone model to think about, but two if a lower-priced model is indeed joining in on the fun. WWDC 2011 is all but finished of course, so are Apple secretly planning another special event to finally lift the lid on their elusive device? If they don’t, it would be very strange if we just saw the new devices just ‘appear’ in the Apple store without some traditional reveal by Steve Jobs dressed in his usual black t-shirt and blue jeans attire.

What are your thoughts on these latest rumors – do you believe they are true? Presuming they are, is the discounted iPhone an option for you or is your next purchase definitely going to be the fifth-generation model? Mouthwatering stuff.
