iPhone 5 date at Best Buy a hoax, Apple’s secret in tact

We have some very interesting details to share with you now, especially if you have been keeping a close eye on the developments surrounding the much-hyped release of Apple’s infamous iPhone 5 device, which is apparently due to hit stores sometime in October.

Last week we told you that an apparent ‘leaked’ Best Buy document was doing the rounds and suggested that the iPhone 5 could be released during the first week of October, as well as seemingly confirming the long awaited arrival of an iPhone device on Sprint as well.

Well now, a report over at Beatweek claims that this Best Buy document was in actual fact a hoax, and it was planted by the retailer to identify untrustworthy employees who couldn’t resist leaking the information into the public-eye, which is exactly what happened since the leaked memo is now a huge talking point in the iPhone 5 release saga.

The article doesn’t mention any official word from Best Buy regarding this matter, so it remains to be seen if the retailer is in fact taking any action against the said employees in reference to their booby-trapped memo. However, if the information is unofficial and the iPhone 5 isn’t launching in the first week of October, it means that we are still no closer to hearing if the iPhone 5 will actually launch in October, despite continued speculation that it will, alongside a Sprint version which was also mentioned in Best Buy’s memo.

Confused? Well, we admit it is a head-scratching situation, but possibly one which Best Buy felt they needed to do to avoid such leaks in the future, as we imagine they and other retailers are under immense pressure from Apple to keep iPhone 5 release secrets, well a secret.

What are your thoughts on this story – do you think Best Buy are calling our bluff on this one or not?
