We have just shared with you a fantastic concept image for the inevitable iPhone 5 device, but now we switch our attention to two new features that could come included with Apple sixth-generation iPhone if it releases towards the end of 2012.
iPhone 4 owners will know just how important it is to protect the lovely display image that is featured on the device. Although there has been a lot of confusion on whether or not the iPhone 4 supports Gorilla Glass, we are today hearing rumors that Apple’s next iPhone may incorporate Corning’s new Gorilla Glass 2 materials, which are said to due for an unveil soon.
According to a press release from Corning, the company will use the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show event to unveil Gorilla Glass 2 for the first time to the world. We are expecting to see the ‘next-generation’ cover glass materials from Corning which will help make smartphones and tablets the most damage and scratch resistant seen so far.
If Corning is unveiling these new materials next week, does that give Apple enough time to get Gorilla Glass materials onto the next iPhone, which is rumored to be coming in Fall 2012? Apple are infamously secret on which companies supply their hardware components, so it may be some time until we get an definitive answer to this question. If Gorilla Glass 2 does make its way onto the iPhone 5 though, we would say that there’s a high chance of the new display covers appearing on Apple’s third-generation iPad tablet as well.
On a side note, a separate report from PatentlyApple reveals that Apple has filed a collection of new patents related to their Thunderbolt port which you’ll be familiar with on newer Mac products. The patents suggest that Apple may have plans to include Thunderbolt ports on upcoming iOS devices which of course may or may not include the iPhone 5 and iPad 3. Many consumers will see this as a logical step for Apple though, so perhaps this is a lot more likely to happen rather than the Gorilla Glass 2 theories.
