Just like when the iPhone 4 was launched last year Apple has been having some issues reported by some users. So far we have had the much publicized battery life problems that are now in the process of being fixed via an iOS update which is in the works. There were the Siri outages that affected users in the US recently as well. Now we can tell you that the iPhone 4S release brings another bug, with muted calls being reported.
There is now a growing thread over at the Apple support forums with users reporting an issue with outbound calls having no audio coming from the earpiece. According to MacRumors the problem is affecting users on all three of the US carriers.
It seems the issue concerns a possible driver problem between the handset and the iOS 5 software. There have been no problems reported with incoming calls and other features that require the earpiece, and originally some users thought the problem centered on Bluetooth headset connection. It then emerged that users who have never used a Bluetooth headset also encountered the same issue.
If the speakerphone is switched on and off can solve the problem, or if Siri is activated and if a user plugs in headphones can also fix the problem. These are only temporary fixes though and not a permanent solution. There have also been reports of calls having an echo sound when using the iPhone 4S. This will be further embarrassment to Apple, which the company will probably fix in the upcoming iOS update.
Have you had any issues with your iPhone 4S earpiece?
