If you are a keen member of the iPhone 4 / 4S jailbreak community, you’ll probably be already aware that an untethered jailbreak is now available for those of you with A4 devices such as the iPhone 4. A5 devices however like the iPhone 4S remain the elusive target to aim for, but developers have united together which could speed up the time needed for a public release.
To put this in simpler terms, iPhone 4S owners cannot jailbreak their devices yet. Developers are still working hard on making this feature available, but now we have news to bring you that a team of ‘known’ hackers have decided to join forces in a collective effort to release the world’s first jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
The hackers in question are Pod2g, responsible for the iOS 5 untethered jailbreak, MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev Team, p0sixninja from the Chronic Dev Team, responsible for GreenPois0n and finally planetbeing who has experience working with Linux and other jailbreak-related tasks. According to Pod2g’s blog, all these figures have agreed to help on developing the first A5 jailbreak, and it will be a move that will surely make Apple take notice as they work to patch up each iOS release with stronger security – effectively a cat and mouse game that has been going on for years.
Considering the progress that has been made so far in the jailbreak scene, who is going to bet against them not being able to pull this off? It will be interesting to hear what Geohot thinks of this – remember him? After his legal shenanigans with Sony, the ‘legendary’ iPhone hacker has not really been seen on the hacking scene ever since, although reports are now suggesting that he applies his trade with Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook website.
Are you patiently waiting for an iPhone 4S jailbreak? Do you think the collective effort of these prominent hackers will get the job done more quickly? Or is this a risky move making this public as it may make Apple wiser to threats? Give us your thoughts on this.
