This is now the fourth Apple iPhone launch and each year the stores learn something different — this time round they have decided to form two lines on launch day. One for those who pre-ordered and one for those who did not — this worked well for the iPad launch, but we have to wonder if there will be any mayhem today?
There has only been one launch day that did not go smoothly, and that was for the iPhone 3G as that was when they offered in-store activations. Things were very calm last year, so we have seen how things can change.
Apple fans have in the most part been well behaved, even sitting outside a store with their Macs sending us images of the fun that they are having. We just hope that they do not like to be segregated this year — even though it worked for the launch of the iPad, does not mean to say that things will go smoothly for today’s release of the iPhone 4.
Caroline McCarthy from Cnet News fears that these two lines could cause some confusion and frustration, which could then lead to nasty goings-on as a number of these people would have been camped out all night. So to see a customer just walk up and get into a much shorter line could certainly cause some resentment.
Are you in line right now, what’s the atmosphere like?
