iPad Vs BlackBerry PlayBook: Browser Performance

The Apple iPad has had the tablet market to itself for months now, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab has ended that. There are a range of Android devices intent on taking on Apple, but it is the BlackBerry PlayBook from RIM that will offer the biggest challenge in the enterprise market.

Nilay Patel from Engadget has now got the two devices side-by-side so that he can pit them against each other. His test was to test browser performance, and the results were interesting. You will see in the video below that the iPad performs as if it is an old dial-up compared to broadband speeds.

When trying to load the same page the PlayBook loads the page much faster than the iPad, more often than not Apple’s tablet did not even start rendering the page while RIM’s device had almost loaded the entire page.

The iPad looks even worse when trying to load a page full of Flash content, but we already know about that. However, it does not stop this from still being a major issue for Apple; yes they are backing HTML 5, but websites seem to be taking an age to implement it.

What did you think of the results?
