iPad Update iOS 4.2 Download: Is It Enough?

iOS 4.2 update for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch is imminent, and as we recently discussed will be more of a benefit to Apple’s tablet device than the other two devices. We know that the update will bring with it a number of features that will appeal to business users, but is this upcoming download enough?

We already know some of the upcoming features, such as AirPlay, AirPrint and Multitasking, which we know is not true multitasking. The iPad has had the tablet market all to itself this year, and has only now seen alternatives show their face, so Apple will need to up it’s game.

Addy Dugdale from Fast Compnay fears that the iPad is starting to look dated, as we are used to new mobile devices being released often. There is a flaw to that reasoning; there is only ever one new iPhone each year — and look at those sales.

The iPad needs more of an hardware update rather than a software update — yes these new OS features will be welcome, but it will not be long before the iPad starts to look dated. There have already been rumors that the new iPad 2 will be launched before Christmas, I’m not too sure about that — then again Apple has already shot the TV commercial for the new device.

Do you think that iOS 4.2 is enough to make the iPad relevant with the new range of tablet devices about to hit the market?

No company will ever have a better device than Apple's. Why? It is very very simple, it's called an Operating System that is second to NONE! Until someone makes a better operating system no one will be able to touch apple products.

The iPad is still very relevant. So-called competitors have nothing extra to offer consumers minus cameras and smaller screens. Cameras mean nothing to Me, neither does a Sd slot or an USB. The CCK takes care of all that. I would like the ability to video conference( via some third-party or apple brand webcam).

I am looking forward to the iPad update. However I do wish that when the iPad 2 comes out that they put front facing speakers on it. Major design flaw for when the iPad is in my lap and the sound is muffled.

Dated? Why then does all of the new Android tablets look the same as the iPad but a bit smaller?

I am a iPad owner and iPhone owner. They can keep their cameras for their iPhones just give my iPad multitasking!

Why do you say that the multi-tasking is not true multi-tasking? iPhone offers different levels of multi-tasking, from battery intensive simultaneous activity of applications through to task-switching with remembered state. Is this to be different for the iPad?
