iOS 4.2 update for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch is imminent, and as we recently discussed will be more of a benefit to Apple’s tablet device than the other two devices. We know that the update will bring with it a number of features that will appeal to business users, but is this upcoming download enough?
We already know some of the upcoming features, such as AirPlay, AirPrint and Multitasking, which we know is not true multitasking. The iPad has had the tablet market all to itself this year, and has only now seen alternatives show their face, so Apple will need to up it’s game.
Addy Dugdale from Fast Compnay fears that the iPad is starting to look dated, as we are used to new mobile devices being released often. There is a flaw to that reasoning; there is only ever one new iPhone each year — and look at those sales.
The iPad needs more of an hardware update rather than a software update — yes these new OS features will be welcome, but it will not be long before the iPad starts to look dated. There have already been rumors that the new iPad 2 will be launched before Christmas, I’m not too sure about that — then again Apple has already shot the TV commercial for the new device.
Do you think that iOS 4.2 is enough to make the iPad relevant with the new range of tablet devices about to hit the market?
