There has been a great deal of talk in regard to the iPhone 7, and even models after that, such as the 7s and iPhone 8. Things being discussed are its design, with fears that this year’s model might stay the same as the current generation, which would not go down well with the faithful. Then the subject of the camera, and also headphone jack and speakers have come up on several occasions.
We have also heard rumors that Apple could make use of more Liquidmetal on an upcoming iPhone, and this has been further supported with a patent to make use of a Liquidmetal home button on an iPhone. However, this could also apply to the iPad Pro 2, which could be released this year, or possibly in 2017.
It’s no secret that the Home button is used the most on an iPhone and even the iPad come to that, and it’s for this reason why it can often be the first component to go.
The positive news is, this patent has been granted, and if it were to be implemented, then it would make the design less complex, and more importantly, last longer than the use of conventional components.
Whats so good about Liquidmetal? The use of this metal allows it to deform repeatedly and bounce back with just a relatively standard dome switch, although it still needs to be pressure sensitive. It’s for this very reason why it would also make the ideal use for the Home button on the second generation iPad Pro.
We do have one concern though, and that’s cost, as using Liquidmetal does cost more than the current components used, although this would become a whole lot cheaper if Apple were to just buy the company that makes Liquidmetal.
