Currently Apple has had it all their own way with the tablet market after various devices have come and gone. It is now facing stronger and cheaper opposition from the likes of the Amazon Kindle Fire, so is an iPad price drop on the cards, and are Apple feeling threatened?
The upcoming holiday season could well see the iPad being priced out of the market and Bill Shope of Goldman Sachs is telling clients to keep watch on iPad sales this quarter. MSNBC.com is reporting that Shope is suggesting that the iPad is long overdue a price cut as well.
Besides the Kindle Fire that starts at $199 there is also the Nook Tablet from Barnes & Noble that is almost upon us, and although is $50 dearer than the Fire has some better specifications. There are many Android tablets on the market as the likes of RIM and HP are cutting prices on first generation devices. Many of these companies now realize that they have to be more realistic with regards to pricing, and are cutting their cloth accordingly.
There will be many who saw that the likes of the Kindle Fire doesn’t come with 3G, but with the price difference is that such a big thing? The iPad is over three times the price of the Kindle Fire, so you would have thought the iPad will be seeing a price drop soon.
The iPhone started life at $599 and has seen big subsides thanks to the various carriers, but this won’t happen with the Wi-Fi only iPad. Before now Apple have only adjusted prices slightly, but there hasn’t been this amount of market pressure it now faces.
There will be many though who feel that paying the higher premium for the iPad is worth it because of what you get with the device. Consumers will be the big winners in the end though as competition will normally see price reductions.
Do you think Apple will lower the price of the iPad?
