iPad mini event today features iBookstore launch

We knew the iPad mini event today would include a lot more than the new smaller iPad and possible iPad 4, and the list of products and services to be announced at Apple’s special press event seem to be increasing. We’re now hearing that the Apple event today will include a feature focusing on an expanded iBookstore launch, which will see books offered to more than the current 32 countries.

Apple’s iTunes Connect account is designed to help make life easier for developers and while any work done in this area is meant to be kept under wraps, which means not to tell the media if you’re a developer, although this is not the case considering all the beta leaks we see and now some insight into the iBookstore launching in 18 more countries.

This source claims to have spoken to one such developer that focuses on iBooks publishing, and noticed another 18 countries under the “pending” status, so this seems pretty convenient right before the Apple iPad mini event today. One thing we learned about Apple over 10 years reporting news online, there is no such thing as “convenient“, so you can pretty much count on an iBookstore announcement during the Apple keynote today. You can see the current iBookstore details in the image below, which comes from the sign up page for developers, and it still shows the 32 countries but this should change to 50 countries within the next couple of days if this rumor is correct.

We’ve previously heard that today’s Apple iPad mini event will also focus on education, and what the new 7-inch iPad could mean for classrooms. You can see a list of the new countries expected for iBooks below, and see more details on a possible iPad 4 in this article.
