iPad mini 2 with Retina confirmation questionable

The whole iPad 2 mini with Retina debate has been going on for some time, because one moment it will happen, and the next it will not. This happened with a couple of reports yesterday, because it had been said production of the display for the new iPad mini had begun and it did not include Retina. However, later that day, it was on again.

It is easy to get confused with all this, and there could be a good explanation, which we will get to in a moment. Back to the news at hand, as it seems the next-generation iPad mini could very well be getting the Retina display, as the Wall Street Journal said that Apple is preparing for its mass production, and is likely to feature the improved display technology.

What we do find strange is some people have already started to comment on this, saying when WSJ say they have spoken to someone familiar with the matter, what they actually mean is they have spoken to Apple. They suggest that this is basically conformation to what will happen, but we do find this questionable to say the least, but do you?

Back to the earlier report of no Retina display for the new iPad mini later this year. Maybe this report was correct, as well as the other report above, which did seem to contradict each other. There is a possibility that we could have a iPad mini 2nd-generation with Retina, as well as one without, which could be an iPad mini C, much like the rumored iPhone 5C?

Having a second, cheaper iPad mini 2 with improved hardware, but a plastic design like the so-called low-cost iPhone could happen this year, as Apple looks for new ways to get into the mid-range market. Having said that, they may just sell the current model for a lot cheaper, and so making that the cheaper iPad mini in the process?
