With Apple invites for the October event expected to be released today, those rumors regarding the iPad mini 2 and other devices expected to make an appearance next week will move up another gear. We already know the larger tablet should come in a smaller form factor, but what about the iPad mini 2?
A big topic of conversation are the iPad mini 2 dimensions, and a recent article on a Chinese website shows that a new Retina display has made the newer Apple tablet slightly thicker, and so has prompted changes to iPad mini 2 cases.
If the iPad mini 2nd generation does come with a Retina display, then it will have to be slighter thicker, although the larger battery will be a cause of that as well. The battery life has always been a concern if Apple was going with a Retina display on their 2013 iPad mini refresh; and so a bigger capacity battery was always going to happen.

The new second-generation iPad mini dimensions would be the same in height and width, but its thickness would go from 7.2 millimeters to 7.5 millimeters. This is not far-fetched because Apple did a similar thing with the iPad 3, as this got the Retina upgrade as well, and so was made slightly thicker.
We are still not certain when the iPad mini 2 will start to ship, as we have already heard that there could be production constraints. It has been suggested that the new smaller iPad will ship a little later than the iPad 5, but we hope to learn more on October 22nd.
