iPad 5, mini 2 with fingerprint sensor

We can usually get a good idea of what technology new devices will have inside by looking at the supply chain, and two that has gained our attention are the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2, which could see a launch on October 15, 2013. If we are to believe one of the latest reports then Apple’s upcoming tablet refreshes could come with a finger print sensor.

iPad 5 and mini 2 with fingerprint sensor possibility — According to DigiTimes, who we know has a checkered past believes Apple is to use sapphire in their new tablets. Okay, this could just be for the covers on the cameras, just as was used in the iPhone 5.

However, it seems strange why they would do this now when they could have done it last year. If Apple is to use sapphires on the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2nd generation then we believe it will be for the fingerprint sensor because we know they aim to improve security across their iOS devices.

We already have a concept image of an iPad with the new home button below, although you can see several more for your viewing pleasure here. We have to say, they do suit the new design, but it might not be as simple as you may think.

Let us say Apple will adopt this improved security feature, then we believe it will only be for the iPad 5 because it will come with the latest hardware, such as the new A7 64-bit chip, which as we know offers vast improvements over the A6 processor.

As for the iPad mini 2, it could miss out on a fingerprint scanner because it is more than likely coming with the A6 chip because it is a cheaper option.

Speaking of the iPad 5, we have a sneak peak of what one could look like running, although it has used the case from the 5th generation iPad and the internals form the 4th generation.
