iPad 3G plan and thoughts on cost

Earlier today we posted an article looking at the Micro SIM cards which brought 3G connectivity to the iPad, a recent article posted on gather takes a close look at the iPad’s cost and the cost of 3G data plans.

Yesterday Apple unveiled their Apple iPad (you can see video coverage of the event here), technology-wise there are a few downfalls (no multitasking and no Flash support), also a lot of people have also been put off by the overall cost.

There are six different versions to choose from, these is a 16GB version with WiFi connectivity for $499, a 16GB version with WiFi and 3G connectivity for $629. There is also a 32GB version with WiFi connectivity for $599, a 32GB version with WiFi and 3G connectivity for $729 and finally a 64GB version with WiFi connectivity for $699, and a 64GB version with WiFi and 3G connectivity for $829.

As for 3G data plans there will be two options to choose from, a limited data plan will set you back $14.99 per month and an unlimited data plan will set you back $29.99 a month.

Personally I like the sound of the iPad, however feel that I only really need it if it offers a 3G data plan, however with economic climate as its is I do not really want to have another monthly commitment.

Currently I pay for my handset’s contract which includes a data plan and my home broadband, I do not really fancy having to pay yet another data-related contract.

Also as AT&T’s coverage is somewhat patchy in America I’m sure many customers will be put off by the bad press that iPhone customers have voiced regarding the network, what do you think?
