iPad 3 to bring thinner form factor and batteries

News about the iPad 3 has gone a bit quiet lately since we found out last month the next version of Apple’s tablet PC would not be available until next year. There has been talk of the iPad 3 getting a Retina display, and now the iPad 3 release date is set to bring a thinner form factor and batteries.

According to Redmond Pie via the Taiwan Economic News, Apple has signed deals with Dynapack Int’l Technology Corp and Simplo Technology Co. for battery packs for the new iPad. The new deals will provide Apple with thinner and lighter battery packs than the ones that are currently used in the iPad 2.

Another good feature of the batteries is that they should also provide a longer life for users, but the units will cost Apple by up to a third more. This will mean the iPad 3 will be even thinner and lighter than the current model, which itself was an improvement over the original iPad. The new batteries are expected to enter production during the first quarter of 2012.

This will be coupled with the new Retina display the iPad 3 is rumored to be getting, which will allow for a beautiful display like the one that is currently found on the iPhone 4. The display of the new iPad is thought to be the reason there will be no release of the unit until next year. It is believed Apple’s suppliers couldn’t produce enough of the displays in time, so the release was delayed.

If Apple were planning to release a new iPad so soon after the last version became available many consumers would have been unhappy. We are all used to Apple normally refreshing their products each year but only six months may have been too much for some. Apple may have always been planning to release the iPad 3 early next year anyway.

Do you like the idea of an even thinner iPad?
