iPad 3 draws closer as production reportedly begins

Every time we get closer to a new Apple product speculation and rumors begin to crank up in numbers. Earlier this month we told you that Apple was thought to be looking at a LED backlight display for the next iPad. This rumor was seemly backed up more recently with talk of the iPad 3 being slightly thicker than the current model. Now we have news that the iPad 3 release date draws closer as production reportedly begins.

According to an analyst who has spoken with Cnet, production on the high resolution displays has begun, and Apple are also thinking of a smaller 7.85-inch iPad in the future as well. DisplaySearch analyst, Richard Shim, said “its happening–QXGA, 2048×1536. Panel production has started”, and added that three different companies will be supplying Apple with the displays, which are LGD, Samsung, and Sharp.

It has been reported before that the new displays for the iPad 3 may cause manufacturers issues with churning out the numbers Apple require, and the fact there is three manufacturers for the displays backs this up.

The iPad 3 display is thought to be the big showcase of the new device with a much larger resolution over the current model that has 1024 X 768 display. According to Shim it will be a couple of weeks for the displays to reach the assembly plant to be installed in the housing. He feels that there should be finished iPad 3s available sometime in December, and ready for shipment in January.

It is thought the arrival of the Amazon Kindle Fire has made Apple think more about releasing a smaller cheaper iPad. But Shim is claiming any such device won’t come before the second half of 2012. We could also see the iPhone 5 and new MacBook Air alongside the iPad 3 next year.

Would an all new display tempt you with the iPad 3?
