The last couple of days have seen a number of new rumors surrounding the next version of the Apple iPad. It is widely believed a new device will be launch sometime next month with a number of new specs rumored to be coming. Today we have some new rumors of the iPad 3 form factor and the lack of an A6 chip.
There are some new leaked images that are being claimed to be of the new iPad, and shows the iPad 3 to be between 1 and 1.5 mm thicker than the current version. As ZDNet are reporting another image shows a bigger camera hole that coincides with other recent reports of an improved camera.
It is also being claimed that the bezel of the iPad 3 will be slightly narrower compared to the iPad 2, which if true may cause some issues for cases currently available for the older version. It seems like that Apple may have added some space to the inside of the iPad by making the top glass thinner.
There are claims that the camera may not be as high as eight megapixels due to high production costs. Also other claimed images of the iPad 3 show a processor that is marked with Apple A5X, which goes against previous reports that the iPad 3 will feature a quad-core A6 chip.
Other sources have noted that the processor has a date code of 1146, which is thought means it was made during the 46th week of last year. This processor is thought to be a simple upgrade to the current A5 device found in the iPad 2, and about a fifty percent improvement.
The A4 chip was known as the S5L8930X, with the later A5 getting the S5L8940X. The proposed unit coming in the iPad 3 has the number S5L8945X, which hints at the fifty percent upgrade. This could mean the iPad 3 will only be powered by a dual-core processor and not quad-core, which has been suggested before.
There are set to be a number of mobile devices launching in the next few months powered by quad-core processors, so in some people’s eyes an iPad 3 with only a dual-core unit may be a mistake. Hit the link above to see the claimed images of the iPad 3. Do you think the next iPad needs to be quad-core?
