iPad 2 Vs iPad: Official Specs List Compared

For those of you who are considering picking up the just announced iPad 2 tablet from Apple, the question that most of you will want to know is – How much better is the iPad 2 compared to the original iPad ? Well, with a few simple but effective hardware upgrades, the easy answer is a lot better.

The best thing about the iPad 2, is that it debuted with the exact same price you find the iPad 1, although this information is now slightly incorrect since Apple have just put a $100 price cut on the iPad within the last few hours.

Aside from the minor design changes between the two, the biggest spec changes is the inclusion of a 1Ghz dual core A5 processor, which Apple unveiled at the event. The A5 promises double the CPU speed and a graphics improvement of up to nine times – although Apple strangely decided not to announce which graphics chip will power the iPad 2 yet.

Moving on, there are now front and rear cameras on the iPad 2, but again Apple decided not to go into specifics on the exact resolutions of them. They did say though that the rear camera would be able to produce 720p video a 5x zoom pictures. The front camera on the other hand is just listed ‘VGA’, which tells us that it stands at a bare minimum, unlike the Motorola Xoom for example which will come with a 2MP front camera out of the box.

Another thing that Apple conveniently decided not to announce at the event, is how much RAM the iPad 2 has. We’re guessing by Apple’s silence, that the RAM remains at 256MB, the same amount that’s currently featured in the iPad at the moment.

Aside from being a lot thinner than the iPad 1, the iPad 2 remains the same as the 1st gen device in a lot of aspects. There is also support for both Verizon and AT&T this time around though, and an impressive 10 hours of battery life during frequent use on the iPad 2.
