iPad 2: Release Date Update – New 7-inch model a finished product?

We have an interesting article for you to read now, especially if you have been keeping a close eye on these 7-inch iPad rumors which have been creeping onto the internet lately. You’ll be surprised to hear that a Chinese website is claiming that the new model is already a ‘finished product’.

That is according to this report from Apple Insider, who have obtained their information from Chinese website Shanzai who claim that the 7-inch model, or iPad 2 as it is also known is well underway in terms of development, so far to say that it has been tagged as a finished product.

Furthermore, the Chinese website says that the smaller model will be similar to the iPhone 4 in design, rather than retaining the same look and feel as seen in the current 10-inch iPad.

Here is a portion from Shanzai’s article: “Yes there will be a (7-inch) tablet, yes it’s well underway in terms of product development and in fact it’s a finished product.”

What are your thoughts on this? Many consumers still consider the original iPad to be a new product on the market, so all this talk on a brand new model is surely too much to digest at the moment.

For current iPad owners – Are you regretting buying the 10-inch or not?

I think if they offered version two in two different sizes everybody would be happy. I had my ipad for a little over a month when it had a fatal hardware malfunction and had to send it back to the company. They are refunding my money as we speak but my dilemma whether or not I should wait for the new release. I am kind of on the fence right now. Having a camera installed would be nice but I have no desire to have a smaller screen size at all. I don't like idea that they would make us… Read more »

I have the current 10" version and will buy the next version if its 10" also. I will not buy a smaller unit as the 10" is as small as I will go. I am looking for a stylus for my iPhone 4 because its almost worthless as a input/output device, even with its high resolution. It is sad that Apple is going to release a "me too" product but at least they have the financial resources to do a flop and then do it right the next round.

Well, any device tied to AT&T is not on my x-mas list.
$25/month for only 2GB.
2GB is useless for me, I conserve how I use my iPad so much, its become useless.

i dont know if i would buy a 7 inch…. then again, its cheaper then an expensive $500.
I think its a little small… and im not usualy a complainer about size. But 7 inch iPad and the WAY smaller iPod Touch is a little to small.

7 inch screen would be a complete travesty.

While I'm not to fussed about cameras on my iPad, I WOULD like to be able to share my iPhone 3G connection with it. Biggest improvement would be a big increase in the amount of RAM. 256Mb simply isn't enough. I'm also a bit annoyed that we haven't seen iOS4 yet.

what about a modified version of mac OS X witch would be much better than ios

VBB…i couldn't agree more. Jobs is a genius, and to stray away from 9.7 wouldn't be "of his character". On another tip, the "2" should include citric preinstalled.

I hope the new iPad will have cameras and 128GB of memory. Don't see the point of making it smaller (7") thou… Wouldn't it get a bit crowded in the Apple touch device lineup?

Simon, I agree. Hoping Apple still has a 9.7" available with front facing cam to keep in touch with my folks. 9.7" and straight forward interface is ideal for them as they aren't too computer savvy.

7 inch is too small for me. I'm considering buying a first gen. iPad, but wondering whether I should wait for the news ones. But if they're going to be smaller they'll be useless.
