iPad 2 Price to Bring Motorola Xoom Affordability

Now that Apple’s second generation iPad has finally been made official, the focus now appears to be on the price of the new tablet and that of its competitors. In fact, some even believe that the iPad 2 price will no doubt bring down the cost of the Motorola Xoom in time.

According to a recent article by Clint Boulton at, the iPad 2 does have a few features in common with the Motorola Xoom, which as Alan Ng recently mentioned (here) was seen at Sam’s Club for $539, including front and rear facing cameras and a dual core processor.

However, it’s the price difference between the two tablet PCs that many consumers are focused on. Apple did of course keep the same pricing for its iPad 2 as it did for the first generation iPad. Meanwhile, Verizon is offering the Motorola Xoom for $599 with a 2-year agreement.

If customers wish to purchase the Motorola Xoom without a contract, then Verizon are offering it for $799. As Clint Boulton pointed out in his article, if Motorola and Verizon Wireless executives have any concerns, it should be in the pricing of the Xoom tablet.

The Motorola Xoom’s $799 price tag works out $70 more than a 32GB iPad 2 that comes with Wi-Fi and 3G. So what can Verizon and Motorola do? Clint notes that they could drop the price point of the Xoom, making it more enticing for potential customers.
