After weeks/months of rumors and speculation as to what features the iPad 2 would or wouldn’t have, the overall weight and size of the device and what price it would be on launch, Apple have finally made the second generation iPad official.
It appears that many of the previous rumors turned out to be true as well, as according to a recent article by Vlad Savov over on the engadget.com website, the iPad 2 runs on an A5 dual-core processor and features both front and rear-facing cameras.
The new A5 dual-core processor is said to be up to twice as fast, while the graphics performance said to be up to nine times better than Apple’s first generation iPad. However, power requirements and battery life appear to have been kept the same.
Another thing that has been left unaltered is the price, with Apple announcing that the iPad 2 will start from $499. The iPad 2’s rear-facing camera will have the ability to do a 5x digital zoom, as well as being able to record 720p video at 30fps.
Moving on to the device’s size and weight, the iPad 2 is 33% thinner than the original iPad and weighs in a little lighter at just over 600g. The device — which will come in either black or white — will be available on both Verizon and AT&T, and will start shipping on March 11th.
