iOS Fitbit app updated to track health with only iPhone 5S

With the new year almost upon us, many will look to start 2014 by getting in shape. Luckily Fitbit has updated their iOS app with version 2.1 so that iPhone 5S users can track their health without any wearable accessories.

The latest M7 chip inside the iPhone 5S acts as a motion sensor, allowing the smartphone to track activity such as distance travelled, speed and the amount of calories you burn. The app will log all of this data and can be customized to include other options such as fitness goals, food intake and social features.

Fitbit is still available to those who do not own the iPhone 5S, although their wearable band is required for reading your personal information. The update offers an alternative to Nike’s built in fitness app on the iPhone which also uses tracking without an accessory depending on the model you own.

These apps offer great ways to get in shape as your phone acts as your fitness companion, being with you at all times. The combination of features will keep your health routines in order and help you to keep your health targets on track.
