With iOS 8 now out there people have been seeing what all the fuss is about, and while there are reports of iOS 8 battery drain with iPhone and iPad devices, just remember that you will be draining your battery much quicker as you try out some of the new features.
There are three main features built into iOS 8, and those are QuickType, Continuity and the Health app. The first can be used on the iPhone and iPad, while the second will not come into its own until Yosemite is released, and the last feature is centered more towards the iPhone, although you won’t get the full benefit without some third-party fitness products, or the Apple Watch once released next year.
The first video below looks at how you go about using QuickType, although it is rather straightforward to use. All you need to do is open the Messages app and then begin to type; you will then notice that the software will begin to come up with suggestions for a word that could come next. If the word is there, then just tap on it and it will be added to your message.
When I first opened up the Health app I was overwhelmed with the many features that are available, so if you felt like that, then the iOS health app tutorial video below should help to explain a few things. There are some features that the iPhone can make use of, such as keeping an eye on the calories you burn, although you need to make sure this feature is activated, and you have the iPhone on you at all times.
What we find really cool is the section where you can set up your medical ID, which is also explained in the second video.
Apple Insider has an informative article on Continuity that shows you how you can handoff calls, texts and apps, along with many other features. Please remember though, some of the functionality will only work on later Macs running Yosemite.
