iOS 8 public release date in 2 days

This is a quick reminder for our readers that the iOS 8 release date is in 2 days time. Apple has been spot on this year with following their traditional pattern of launches and we noticed this with the Gold Master going live for developers right after their September keynote, and we even predicted the iOS 8 public release date nearly a month ago.

You will be able to download this update on Wednesday this week, although some people will choose to wait a little longer after expected server problems as we’ve seen in past years. In fact, following the Apple event live stream problems it seems likely we’ll end up with some downloading issues on September 17th.

There’s a lot of changes in iOS 8 and while most aren’t obvious right away, if you head to the iMessage app you will notice some nice improvements. You will be able to add your voice quickly within messages thanks to a new record button and our developer has been using this feature for weeks now without any problems.

Another massive improvement within messages is with the keyboard, which gains from 3rd party access for the first time with iPad and iPhone in iOS 8. This means you will see a number of apps that can create new keyboards and add-ons, although you should expect these to take a few weeks to arrive. We did feature one 3rd party keyboard already in development called PopKey and this will release in a couple of weeks.

Will you be downloading the iOS 8 public build on its release date, or would you rather wait a day considering the expected demand?
