There’s no doubt going to be iOS 8 app crashes and our developer experienced these within the beta versions, although how high is the percentage of iOS 8 apps crashing in the public version? One mobile analytics company has offered a report that you can download to gain further insight into this very topic.
According to Crittercism, it initially looks like iOS 8 app crashes occur a lot more than we saw with iOS 7. In fact, this analytics company state iOS 8 apps are crashing around 65 percent more often than those in the previous major upgrade.
You can see some figures from the report above, or download the full detailed report on crittercism’s official website here. There’s something we need to point out about this report and its figures, which basically relates to the report basing the above statement on iOS 8 apps crashing in the last week and this is compared to iOS 7 apps after a year since release.
Apple will no doubt fix many problems in iOS 8.01 and 8.02 updates. You will also see 3rd party app developers fix many of the issues and crashing seen with their apps in the coming weeks.
What’s your thoughts on Crittercism’s benchmark report for iOS 8 performance after such a short time? As you can see in the above table, the increase of app crashes is only from 2% to 3.56% for iOS 8 after just a few days since its release date. It will be interesting to see tests run again comparing iOS 7.1 to 8.1 when it releases.
