The problems seen when iOS 7.0.6 randomly turns off with iPad and iPhone should be fixed by iOS 7.1, say Apple, but this news hasn’t gained a lot of confidence with users. The reason some people have doubts is due to reports that iOS 7.1 beta 4 or 5 didn’t fix the random shut off issues.
We have heard from a number of Product Reviews readers in regard to this very issue and we should point out that this problem has been around since the initial iOS 7 release date, but recent tests reveal it’s still an issue.
In a hands-on this week, we’ve seen iOS 7.0.6 randomly turn off on an iPad mini and iPhone 4S, although our readers have confirmed the same problem with iPhone 5S as well. It doesn’t just happen at the homescreen, but a pattern reveals low battery life might have something to do with it.
Apple stated just over a month ago that the abrupt soft reboots will be addressed in a future iOS 7 update. This hasn’t happened up to at least iOS 7.1 beta 4, so with the public release due in a matter of days there’s some users worrying it won’t happen. “My iPhone 5S randomly turns off with iOS 7.0.6 and even the iOS 7.1 beta 4”, said one Product Reviews reader. Another added, “When my battery drops just below 30 percent I get a shut down sometimes, although it is random in terms of this not happening every time”.
You won’t need to look far in forums to see that the latest public update has the problem as seen in this comment, “Since I updated my iPhone to iOS 7.0.6 it has randomly rebooted on 2 occasions, which is the first time this has happened to me other than on my iPad once”.
