iOS 6 release time pinpointed

Since Apple revealed the latest event with invites we’ve been able to understand a few things, which includes the name of the next iPhone most likely being the iPhone 5, and also roughly when the iOS 6 release time will be. The launch date for the new iPhone had already been pinpointed thanks to the normal block on staff taking holidays, but a release for iOS 6 can only be predicted once we knew when the new iPhone keynote would be.

Apple hasn’t confirmed anything about the Apple event this week, other than its location and date for Sept 12. Taking a look at last years iPhone event shows that it had been on a Tuesday, and landed on Oct 4. The new OS back then had been iOS 5, which launched just 8 days after the event on Oct 12.

Taking this into account we could pretty much pinpoint a window for the iOS 6 release time, which as you can see in the image we created below, puts the iOS 6 release anywhere between 6 and 8 days after the Apple iPhone 5 event. We’d predict that the date would likely be smack bang in the middle of the week, just like they did with the last major software upgrade, so this puts the date at Sept 19.

Expect some slowdown when trying to download iOS 6 – It is worth pointing out that the moment the iOS 6 release time arrives you’ll find it pretty hard to get a download, although this will depend on the time you try to install the software, which is due to heavy demand every year and with more people owning iPhones than ever before, you should expect things to be even busier this year. Apple might have billions in the bank but servers can only handle so much traffic at once, and everyone has their limits, even Apple.

The new iPhone is predicted to launch starting the end of the same week, Friday Sept 21, and these devices will ship with iOS 6 installed already, so it is an almost certainty that Apple would want iOS 6 launched around two days before just like we’ve seen in previous years.

Problems in the past with launching a major iOS update and a new iPhone on the same day taught Apple a lot, so another reason for the predicted iOS 6 release time is that Apple likes to have a couple of days to handle any issues with early adopters before launching their latest iPhone.

Will you be one of the first to download iOS 6, or are you planning on buying the latest iPhone? We’ve seen a few people using iOS 6 already, even without developer accounts, although it didn’t seem worth it at this late stage considering iOS 6 is about to release in just over a week.
