So now that you have been set up with various live blogs for Apple’s imminent WWDC 2012 event, the only thing left to do is to get excited and mull over what Apple will be announcing and showcasing in San Francisco.
Thanks to numerous pictures that have been taken of the Moscone Center building, we now know for sure that Apple will use WWDC 2012 to unveil iOS 6 to the world for the first time. This may come as a surprise to some of you since we’re only on version 5.1.1 of the current software, but Apple obviously has some big things to show off that warrant taking iOS all the way up to the big 6.0.
So what can we expect to see from iOS 6? One thing that is very likely to come with a major new version, is some visual enhancements to the general UI when browsing through apps and menus. Thanks to an early peek at Apple’s new upcoming 3D maps app, we may see Apple use the color silver to decorate their iOS 6 interface, with the navigation bar at the top the main candidate to change from its iOS 5.xx appearance.
As mentioned above, iOS 6 will definitely include a new maps app and this time it is an effort from Apple themselves meaning that there will no longer be any evidence of Google Maps inside an Apple device. We told you in a previous article here that Apple’s maps app will include 3D layouts of maps, thanks to the help of C3 technologies that Apple recently acquired.
Another major whisper coming out from several Apple ninjas is that iOS 6 will finally see a partnership emerge between Apple and Facebook. The new software will fully integrate Zuckerberg’s social networking website, meaning that users will now have the option of uploading media straight to Facebook, along with Twitter which is the current option.
Since Apple touted ‘hundreds of new features’ when they first launched iOS 5, we have a feeling that the features list for iOS 6 may be just as big, if not bigger. It’s hard to say what features will be shown since iOS 6 has seemingly come out of nowhere, but we really hope that Apple is finally planning to add automatic updates as a universal feature across all iOS devices. Automatic updates would be a great addition, while some live wallpapers like the ones seen on the Samsung Galaxy S III would be great as well.
