iOS 5 did not release at midnight as some would have hoped, but we are only hours away from the download going live. Some readers have asked if it would be an OTA, but this will not happen until iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S users are running the latest software. In the meantime there are now a host of reviews coming in, so we thought we would offer you an iOS 5 review roundup just to wet your appetite.
All the big boys have now had some hands-on time with the latest and greatest iOS from Apple — we just hope that it lives up to our expectations? One of the most in-depth reviews has to be from AppleInsider, but would we expect anything less? They start off by making a case for iOS 5, saying that there is no reason not to download it, as it is free and better then the current or any previous versions. The review does not go into detail of all the updates, but just those that matter, such as Notification Center, iMessage, iCloud, and of course Siri. They conclude by saying that iOS 5 mimics many features that rivals already have, but there are just some that the competition is unable to touch.
The Telegraph’s review is a little less extensive, yet still insightful. We do love how they try to sell iOS 5, by saying that those that install the update will feel like they have a new device, and it’s hard to argue with that really — well you can if you have an original iPhone or 3G, as they are not supported. The biggest selling point for iOS 5 is how Apple has an “attention to detail in design.”
We think we may have found the best iOS 5 review yet — well in length anyway, as it is over 4,000 words long. SlashGear says that this is the most considerable update yet, and benefits from a fresher feel. iMessage is a huge threat to BBM, and what with RIM having constant issues with this in Europe, we can see that they are just handing this to Apple on a plate — meaning BlackBerry users might consider a switch to the iPhone.
These are just three of what we believe to be the best iOS 5 reviews on the Internet, but there are loads more. Let us know who you think offers the greatest insight into this latest software update for the iPHone.
