iOS 5 glitch causes iPad 2 security breach

Many of those who own Apple devices will have been enjoying the latest offerings from the company in terms of software with the new operating system iOS 5. Some of you may even have grabbed their new smartphone the iPhone 4S. The iOS upgrade brings over 200 updates and even brings older generation model devices up to scratch, however a glitch has been discovered with the OS that causes an iPad 2 security breach.

According to TechWorld those tablet owners who use a password protection to access their device will find that anyone can access it with the new iOS. The flaw lies with the Smart Cover which due to a glitch allows people to bypass the password screen.

To make this happen, the power button is held down until the device asks if you want to power off, then the Smart Cover is placed over the tablet. Once the Smart Cover is opened again, the power off screen can be cancelled and the device is accessible with no password entry.

The glitch has been mainly reported by those who have upgraded the iPad 2 to iOS 5, however there were some issues concerning this with devices that were still using iOS 4.3. The company is aware of the issue and is working on a fix.

There have been concerns with the iOS 5 upgrade on older generation models, suggesting that the update could be the end of your device as you know it. Battery life problems were mentioned by many of those who upgraded their iPhone 3GS. In general the fact that an older generation device was able to experience the latest software was appreciated more than frowned upon. Have you experienced this problem with your iPad 2? What other problems, if any, have you had with the iOS 5 upgrade?
