iOS 5 compatibility before download time

This year has shown us not to count Apple as being predictable, especially after the iPhone 5 missed a launch a few months ago, and developers have had the iOS 5 download for a while, although there is time for change by Apple. One of the reasons Apple is holding back the gold master could be a missing key feature from betas, which will get revealed at the Apple iPhone event later today.

One expectation for that very missing feature could be “Voice Assistant”, which some people expect to change “everything” and could even mainstream artificial intelligence. Evidence of this feature started to show when a reference to voice commands showed up in a beta, and while many Android users think Google has voice commands already, they’d be wrong thinking it was the same as iOS 5’s Virtual Personal Assistant.

If this AI feature releases today in the finished iOS 5 download, then you can expect Apple’s event to be one of the most groundbreaking yet. It has been reported in this article that Google’s voice actions are just partial AI, and Apple’s product will start a technology revolution.

You can see a full list of known features here for iOS 5 before the download time that is expected either today or within the next few days, although you’ll want to make sure you are ready for the update.

The image below shows you what devices are compatible with iOS 5, and we’ve had a few emails asking us this very question. According to Apple, the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generation, and both iPad’s are compatible with the upcoming OS.

Just remember you got time to try iOS 5 on your current iPhone before thinking about upgrading. When do you think Apple will make iOS 5 live to download?
