iOS 5 beta 5 download primarily helps developers test iCloud

We can official announce that Apple has released the iOS 5 beta 5 download to developers, and as we get closer to the public release of iOS 5, the bugs are being ironed out and new features added for testing. Apple is keen to get things moving and a new build releasing on a Saturday shows this.

As normal, another iOS 5 beta launches with other downloads. These include Apple TV Software beta 4, iTunes 10.5 beta 5, and Xcode 4.2 Developer Preview 5. These downloads are all aimed at testing different aspects of iCloud, as this is a big part of Apple’s plan for most of their products. While OS X Lion didn’t include support for iCloud, this is expected to come in a future update nearer the fall iOS 5 release. Developers can test iCloud support in a special build of Lion (10.7.2), which works with another beta package for testing how the features work with other Apple software.

As normal, the beta version of iOS 5 and other software is designed for use on devices dedicated for testing, and developers should not store any critical information and data using iCloud. This warning comes because Apple could purge data stored in the cloud before the iOS 5 Gold Master release.

The new Apple TV beta software adds support for Photo Stream, which will dramatically enhance the way you share photos between Mac and iOS systems. The new beta build of Apple TV will allow for photos to stream automatically and wirelessly via the different Apple software in your home, this is pretty cool and welcomed in our home, which uses Apple TV for displaying holiday snaps.

App developers will want to download the new Xcode 4.2, and this will help them test the latest iOS 5 beta 5 and iCloud enhancements. The full release notes can be found here. Are you looking forward to using iCloud on your Apple products?
