iOS 4.2: Release Date Update for iPhone, iPod Touch

We have some good news for those of you looking forward to the release of Apple’s iOS 4.2 update for iOS devices, as Apple has inadvertently revealed a release period for when the update will drop.

According to this report from the Guardian, Apple gave the hint about iOS 4.2, when trying to help out users still suffering from problems related to the alarm clock bug on the iPhone 4 – read more on that in our previous report here.

When explaining a potential solution for users though, Apple revealed that the problem will be fixed up after November 8th, meaning that the update could be due for release at any time up until the 8th (Monday).

Don’t forget that we recently told you that Apple has already released the GM version of iOS 4.2, so an imminent release for iOS 4.2 now does look very likely. We predict that Apple will actually drop this on Monday though, and not before. Let us know your thoughts on this.

Are some of you guys serious, You guys really think people buy the iPhone because of its alarm clock. Get a life, I used a Blackberry and HTC and Android phones and all of them suck. Once you go iPhone, you never go back.

I think the fix is more likely to do with the clocks going back in the US than iOS 4.2 being released – I think it's still a week or two away.

I am noticing a similar thing to Rashed – although for teh past week, my iTunes has steadfastly refused to change the "next check date" past 10 Nov 2010.

My guess it'll be released…. when they release it 🙂 Who the hell really knows? I am tipping before 10 Nov – but that is because the sooner it is fixed, the better – being in Australia, I am somewhat over the DST problem

I don't think Apple releases are ever released on the weekend. Hopefully the "after the 7th" comment means the 8th 😀 its gotta be the 8th or 15th. I dont see it being longer than that due to new Windows 7 Phones & Android releases.

it is due by the 7th, not the 8th. the help forum said
"After November 7th, you can reset your alarms to repeat"
but on nov 7th the USA users will get the bug,
so apple is sure to have released it by the 7th or they will lose their own systems time.
also my itunes account refuses to change my ipod system check for update from nov 6
it does it a week from the last time i do it, although i check everyday!!!
my prediction, nov 6
also tell me if you have the same itunes problem: rashed97@bellsouth.net

If you set your alarm again on Nov 8 but you’re still on the old firmware then you’ll run into the same issue again next year. So my guess is that the author assumed Apple was referring to solving the problem once for good, not just temporarily. Just resetting your alarm on the old firmware will fix the problem just for one year whereas setting the alarm on the new firmware will solve it for good.

I might be wrong but I’m assuming that just updating the firmware without resetting the alarm doesn’t fi the issue.

Listen CLOWNS, Windows 7 phones are most likley being released Nov 8. Android Gingerbread may be released around Nov 11th. Apple would be losing a lot of customers to the other 2. It is in Apple's best intrest to release this A.S.A.P. Hopefully on the 8th.

@Kevin Wang, @bnem you're both right. The poster didn't understand the report from Apple. The bug will resolve itself after North America goes to daylight savings time on Nov. 7th. So that's why it's resolved by Nov. 8th.

@Kevin Wang, agreed. after reading apple's bug report it actually states at the bottom that setting the repeat interval back to what it previously was after November 7th will be fine. That's because it's daylight savings clock rollback an hour time. that is not an indicator that iOS 4.2 will be released soon after. @Alan Ng, someone should've check your sources before you posted this since you obviously didn't.

The iPad doesn't even have the alarm clock app so this makes me wonder. Besides, whenever Apple gives you the name of the month for the release date you can bet they mean the very last day of it.

All I can say is the sooner the better. I have no trust any longer in my iPhones ability to wake me up. I have discovered that the imediate single alarm which I set go off at the correct time works fine and yet the repeat/scheduled ones go off an hour late. There are report suhhesting that switching off the automatic time update and re-entering the alarms will solve the problem but sadly this didn't work for me. I am having to resort to setting the repeat alarms an hour early, and the one off alarms at the correct time.… Read more »

Did PR not consider the fact that there is a change in daylight savings on the 7th?
