iOS 4.2 Airprint: Release May Disappoint

We had assumed that Apple was going to release iOS 4.2 yesterday, but all signs now point to Friday, November 12th. In what was meant to be a good day for those who have an iOS device, then you will need to sit down for this; it seems that AirPrint will not be part of the download.

AirPrint is a feature that would have allowed all iOS devices to connect wirelessly to a printer and then print off something from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. We are sure that this removal would come as a huge disappointment, as it was one of the features that we were looking forward to the most?

According to MacRumors, all mention of AirPrint has now been removed from readme files and other documentation that has appeared online. One developer decided to contact Apple technical support, where they confirmed that the printing feature was no more.

You can read that response here.

From what I can see, the main issue was with “instabilities and incompatibilities”, and it is not known if or when it will be made available. Are you disappointed with this latest news? What other iOS 4.2 features are you looking forward to?

AirPrint is still shown on the Apple.com iPad homepage as included in iOS 4.2. http://www.apple.com/ipad/software-update/
