Internet Kill Switch Should obama have it?

Should any one man have the power to turn off parts of the Internet — well that is what a new U.S. Senate bill hopes to gain. The aim is to allow U.S. president Barack Obama to have a kill switch in case of an emergency. This has certainly caused an outrage — with people asking if Obama should have it?

In the proposed legislation, broadband providers, search engines, and also software firms will have to comply with these emergency powers. If the need arises, then the Department of Homeland Security will take over with Obama taking control of the Internet. Those who fail to comply will be fined.

The authority that has control will only allow the federal government to keep certain networks up to help keep the country running. However, according to Declan McCullagh from Cnet News, the 197-page bill looks set to have huge opposition.

One of the biggest fears of this proposal has to be the amount of power that the U.S. Government would have — giving them absolute power of the Internet. Do you think that Barack Obama should have an Internet kill switch?

Wake up America! The more 'power' you give to the stinking government, the more abuses we will be subjected to. NO ABSOLUTELY NOT — no way should our Gov have a kill switch!

It appears as though we are headed down that dark path toward Socialism, there is no way that one Man should have control of the entire internet. That is public domain, people purchase the right to access it and purchase domains etc etc etc. It is not a Government run entity. Obama can shut down SIPRNET or NIPRNET whenever he feels like it, but there is no way on earth that he should be able to shut down the internet. I would have to say that is a complete and utter disregard for freedom of speach and many other rights.

Okay everyone, listen up. Too much is at stake to look the other way this time. If we ignore this ‘bill’ these bureaucrats in Washington will take away the one place left where there is true free of expression. Register at and let’s figure out a way to stop this bill.

Exercise you right to free speech will you still can and sign the Petition against the Kill-Switch bill. –

He should NOT have that power!!!! It is just another form of taking away our Constitutional Freedoms. Yes it is all about Socialism, sad to say.

The internet is the means of communication for more and more people today.
To give the president the power to shut it off is to give him the power to silence all opposition to his rule.
The Revolutionary War was fought for this principle, and our country came into existence to protect that principle.
Obama has sought to gather as much power into the federal government as he can, and if he is allowed to control the means of communication then he will have absolute control of the country and all our lives.

Socialism, here we come! Next, he'll control what news networks are allowed to be on the air, and what we're allowed to hear.
